Weather: Clear with gusting winds
(Night Watch - Resting): Early in the morning,
near dusk Vladamir noted a boar wandering
near camp. It appeared to be wounded in several places with deep slashes. A
sudden hunger for bacon overwhelmed him and the party. Charging down the hill,
they engaged with the beast. The battle was swiftly decided, but not before Donjon took a tusk to the belly. They headed
back up to camp, chopped up the boar with a throwing axe and threw the chunks
into a newly created fire. Looking around they opted to hike out to the
(Dawn Watch - Action): Looking around they
opted to hike out to the blue tower they could see in the distance, hoping that
it may have some information. They had not gotten far when they heard loud
guttural shouting and screams ahead. They burst into an area where the tree limbs
and leaves had been burnt back leaving a small clearing. A large woman with a
club was doing battle with a quartet of flying rocky lava beasts with ornately
shaped helmets. They were hurling lava at the woman, burning her flesh in great
dripping sheets.
After debating the
wisdom of getting involved, Nostecaf's
libido won the real battle and he charged in to assist. The battle was brutal and swift, rendering Donjon near death. The woman, Friga Wild Eye was reserved and aggressive,
speaking in broken common. Turning on the charm, Nostecaf
seemed to have won her over somewhat. He noticed that there was some kind of
creature in a pouch around her neck. She thanked them brusquely and offered
them a book as she could not read.
After some debate,
they decided to forego the tower as Donjon was near death. They retreated back
up the volcano and set up camp near the lip.
(Day Watch - Resting): While whiling away the
day, a short rotund humanoid creature wandered into the camp unseen, surprising
the party. He introduced himself as Grabdar
and wanted to know what they were doing on the mountain for so long. The party
asked him who he was and if he had been on the island for long. He launched
into his life story. It continued for the rest of the day.
(Day Watch - Resting): Grabdar continues his
story. Apparently rocks were different in the Archean eon.
(Dusk Watch - Resting): Attempting to get
Grabdar to stop talking, the party almost drives him away. They explain that
their wounded friend needs rest. He seems saddened by this and begins to turn
Donjon into stone. Rapidly stopping him, they explain that he will be better
soon and there is no reason to make him into a statue. He is skeptical but
agrees to leave him alone until morning. The party decides to invite Grabdar
along for when they visit the tower the next day.
(Night Watch - Resting): As Grabdar concluded
his experiences and relationship with various rocks in the Mesozoic era and was
starting into the more modern Cenozoic, a loud barking noise could be heard
echoing around the volcano. Looking into the woods, the party almost missed the
assault of a small flock of bats descending on them. They rose up to defend
themselves as the bats sensed wounded prey on the ground. Nostecaf interjected
himself between the creatures and Donjon; but it was too late. One of them sunk
it's fangs deep into his neck, drinking him dry. The rest of the bats were
slain or put to flight.
Warning them that
more would be coming, Friga Wild Eye hastily beat a retreat into the safety of
the jungle with the rest of the party. Soon after a swarm of dozens of bats
returned. Seeing only the dead body of Nostecaf on the ground, the rendered it
to a bloodless paste.
